Warren police are investigating something that’s as heartbreaking as it is hard to comprehend. Two elderly women were found dead inside a home Wednesday morning, and police now believe it may have been a suicide pact.

Police got the call around 10:40 Wednesday morning about a possible shooting on Joanne Smith Drive. When they showed up, they found two elderly women in their 70s inside the home, both dead from gunshot wounds.

Two Elderly Women Dead in an Apparent Suicide Pact in Warren

According to WXYZ, one of the women was the homeowner, but the other woman’s relationship to her is still unclear. Investigators found two handwritten notes at the scene suggesting this may have been a “mutually agreed-upon suicide pact.”

The handgun police found appeared new, and both women were present when it was legally purchased just the day before.

A friend of the homeowner was completely stunned when she heard what happened. She says they were close for years.

“She was a sweet little lady. Just adorable,” she told WXYZ. “I don’t understand this, and I don’t know who was with her. I really never would expect this from her.”

Even though police believe it was a suicide pact, there’s still so much mystery surrounding the incident.

Family members say they hadn’t heard from the homeowner all day Tuesday, which was unusual. They showed up at the house the next morning to check on her, and that’s when they found the two women inside.

Right now, it’s still unclear who the second woman was or how she was connected to the homeowner.

It’s got to be so hard for family and friends to wrap their heads around something like this. To know that a loved one felt this was the only way out and not even getting the chance to say goodbye must be absolutely devastating.
