Michigan Township Trustee Accused of Hiding Cameras in Stepdaughters’ Smoke Detectors

After hearing this story, you'll probably never look at a smoke detector the same way again.

Two women in Oakland County allegedly discovered hidden cameras inside the smoke detectors in their bedrooms. Even more disturbing, the man accused of putting them there is their stepfather, West Bloomfield Township Trustee Jibran “Jim” Manna.

Yeah...wow.

Hidden Cameras Allegedly Found in Stepdaughters’ Bedrooms

According to CBS News, Manna’s two adult stepdaughters went to police after discovering the cameras on August 9.

Since he’s a West Bloomfield Township trustee, local police turned the case over to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office so they could handle the investigation independently.

And this is where the story gets even creepier.

Detectives searched Manna’s home and office and reportedly found more cameras and electronic devices. Investigators say some of those cameras were even disguised as electrical outlets.

Police Say Nude Videos Were Found

Investigators also say they found more than 30 nude surveillance videos of the women on Manna’s cellphone.

This is just so messed up. I mean, he was their stepfather, someone they probably trusted and looked at as someone who would protect them. Not someone they’d ever imagine would allegedly do something like this.

Manna, 65, is now facing seven felony charges, including two counts involving images of an unclothed person and five counts tied to installing or using an eavesdropping device.

Because of stories like this, every time I rent an Airbnb or VRBO, I always check the smoke detectors. It might sound a little paranoid, but in today’s world, you just never know.
