What is an Automated Speed Enforcement System?
An Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) is an automated system that uses a camera and a speed measurement device to detect and capture images of vehicles traveling in excess of the posted speed limit.
Earlier this year, the Michigan House of Representatives passed legislation that would allow Automated Speed Enforcement Systems to be set up in certain work zones.
Under House Bill 4132, signage would have to be posted one mile ahead of where the system is located to notify drivers.
When Will Michigan See the Rollout of Automated Speeding Tickets?
It's unclear at the moment as to when the state will see the rollout of automated speeding tickets. Even though the bill passed legislation, it still needs to be passed by the Michigan Senate.
It's a matter of when not if.
The same law that would allow automated speeding tickets went into effect in New York in 2021 and is now being implemented around the state.
Some Michiganders feel the state is trying to be sneaky with the system. There's nothing sneaky about the Automated Speed Enforcement System. It's all about safety in those work zones.
