How many times have you noticed a spider crawling around your house or spotted one up in the corner, just chilling in its web, minding its own business, and your first thought is to kill it?

For some reason, spiders absolutely freak some people out—so much so that they can't even move until the eight-legged creature is destroyed.

Did you know that the average person swallows seven spiders a month in their sleep? Just kidding! That’s a myth I believed for most of my life, but thankfully, it's not true. We’re not going to sleep at night and gobbling up spiders. In fact, spiders want nothing to do with humans.

You know what spiders want? They want to crawl around your house, eating all the other bugs that annoy us, like flies, mosquitoes, cockroaches, moths, ants, fleas, and even bedbugs. Nobody wants those nasty things crawling around their house.

While a little spider might give you the heebie-jeebies, it’s way better to have them around, taking care of other insects that can really cause some damage.

Telling someone not to freak out at the sight of a spider is like telling them not to panic when they see a snake (trust me, I get it—snakes freak me out). It’s easier said than done. But remember, as long as they’re not a black widow or brown recluse, most spiders are harmless and just doing their part to keep other pests in check.

So think twice the next time before killing a spider. They’re just doing their thing, and honestly, they’re probably saving you from a lot of other creepy crawlies.
