The once-popular Wyndham Garden Hotel in Sterling Heights was the go-to place for visitors and residents for 60 years. The hotel, which featured a restaurant and an indoor water park, closed for good in 2020.

The hotel on Van Dyke Avenue in Sterling Heights was built in 1960. It was a well-known spot in the area, especially because of its unique amenities, including an indoor water park, water slides, a lazy river, and a swimming pool. This made it a popular destination for families and travelers looking for a fun stay. I remember going there as a kid with friends just to hang out in the water park; it was an absolute riot.

The hotel had a restaurant and spaces for events like weddings, conferences, and banquets, making it a popular spot for many local activities.

Over time, the hotel became rundown and less popular. By the late 2010s, it had too many maintenance problems and finally closed in December 2020.

2020 marked the end for many businesses throughout the U.S., including the Wyndham Gardens Hotel in Sterling Heights. However, the hotel's troubles began long before the pandemic.

After being abandoned for a couple of years, the hotel was demolished in 2022. The site was redeveloped into "The Block at Sterling Heights," a modern residential apartment complex.

Detroit Unseen was able to gain access to the property before its demolition. Here's a look at some of those final images of Wyndham Garden Hotel in Sterling Heights.
