Kalamazoo is located in Kalamazoo County on the southwest side of the state located roughly 140 miles from both Detroit and Chicago. As of the 2020 census, Kalamazoo had a population of 75,351 people. The city is home to an outdoor pedestrian shopping mall call the Kalamazoo Mall, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College, Bell's Brewery, Latitude 42 Brewing Company, and more. The Gibson Guitar Corporation was also founded in Kalamazoo in 1902.
