Police in western Michigan are investigating what seems to be the drowning of a 3-year-old child.

According to ABC12, the child had been playing a backyard Monday afternoon and somehow got into an above-ground swimming pool. First responders were called to a home northwest of Holland. The child later was pronounced dead at a hospital.

When my son was a toddler we had a swimming pool and the thought of him falling in was one of my biggest fears. Never would I leave him alone in the yard to play because I knew he could take off in the blink of an eye.

I really went above and beyond to make sure there was no way he could get past the gates and fences but even with all the precautions, there was still fear of the possibility.
