It’s been a tragic summer in Michigan, with several drowning deaths reported across the state—many involving younger people. Now, tragedy has struck again, this time with a 70-year-old man who drowned in an apartment pool in Wixom.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening at the Bristol Square Apartments, located near Beck Road and Pontiac Trail. Wixom police say they got the call around 7:20 p.m. after someone spotted the man at the bottom of the pool and noticed he wasn’t moving.

What’s honestly kind of crazy is that no one apparently pulled him out before the police showed up. You’d think someone there at the apartment complex would have jumped in or at least tried to get him out sooner. Of course, it’s possible someone did try, but it just wasn’t reported.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, when officers arrived, they found the man unresponsive underwater. He was quickly pulled from the pool and taken to a local hospital, but sadly, he didn’t survive. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

At this time, officials aren’t releasing the man’s name, and it’s still not clear how long he had been in the water before anyone noticed.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that officials are calling it a drowning, but at this point, who really knows for sure? Until the investigation and any autopsy results come back, it’s hard to say exactly what happened.
