38 Dogs Found Living in Brutal Conditions Inside Michigan Home
This was supposed to be a simple welfare check on Detroit’s east side. Instead, it turned into something much worse.
According to Fox 2 Detroit, police showed up to a home near Liberal and Gratiot for a welfare check on a woman who lived there. The reason for the call isn’t clear, but she was taken to the hospital. Inside the house, officers discovered nearly 40 dogs.

It’s almost impossible to wrap your head around, but there were 38 dogs inside that house. Thirty-eight dogs in one home. Some survived. Some didn’t. Police described the conditions as deplorable, with animal control wearing full protective gear during the removal.
Detroit Animal Care and Control took in the dogs that made it out alive.
There are still a lot of unanswered questions. Police don’t yet know how long the dogs were living like this, how many people were staying in the home, or how the situation escalated to this point before anyone intervened.
If this case sounds familiar, that’s because it is. Just recently, a separate case in Pontiac involved dozens of animals being removed from a home after a welfare check, with horrific conditions uncovered there, too.
Different cities. Different homes. And sadly, we keep seeing this.
