Comerica Park officially has a new name.

It’s definitely going to take some time getting used to that one. I mean, we’ve been calling it Comerica Park for more than 25 years.

During an announcement Monday afternoon, the Detroit Tigers and Fifth Third Bank revealed that the ballpark will now be known as Fifth Third Park.

Why Comerica Park Is Getting a New Name

According to Fox 2 Detroit, the name change comes after Fifth Third Bank bought Comerica Bank for a whopping $10.9 billion last October. Once that deal happened, you had to know the Comerica Park name probably wasn’t going to stick around much longer.

The new name will officially take over for the 2027 baseball season.

This is the first time Comerica Park has ever had a name change. The Tigers moved there in 2000 after leaving Tiger Stadium, and for more than 25 years, it’s always just been Comerica Park.

Detroit Fans Will Probably Keep Calling It Comerica Park

Even after more than 25 years, plenty of fans still miss Tiger Stadium. So, expecting everyone to immediately stop calling this place Comerica Park probably isn’t realistic. Just imagine how hard it’s going to be for the announcers who have been saying Comerica Park for so many years. That’s going to be a tough habit to break.

The ballpark itself obviously isn’t going anywhere. This is strictly a name change. The giant tigers, Ferris wheel, and everything else fans recognize will still be there.

No matter what the sign says out front, there’s a pretty good chance Detroit fans will keep calling it Comerica Park for a long time. It’ll probably be a lot like when Pine Knob became DTE back in the day. Nobody wanted to call it that either.
