4 Year-Old Drowns in Grandparents Pool in Lapeer County
Earlier this week a 4-year-old boy died after drowning in a pool in the backyard of his grandparents’ house.
According to ABC12, The boy wasn’t breathing when friends found him in the pool on Hadley Road in Elba Township around 9:30 a.m. Monday. Deputies from the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office and Lapeer County EMS crews performed life-saving measures, which helped him regain a pulse on the way to McLaren Lapeer Region hospital.
Unfortunately, the boy passed away yesterday after being airlifted to the University of Michigan Medical Center.
This is absolutely heartbreaking for the entire family. I can't even begin to imagine the pain, agony, and guilt those grandparents must be feeling.
The boy was visiting his grandparents along with his mother and twin sibling. Apparently he had last been seen around 8:30 am and was sleeping. He must have woken up, walked outside and opened the gate leading to the pool. What must have happened next send chills down my spine.
No doubt this was a tragic accident and our hearts go out to the family at this extremely difficult time.
This was a huge fear of mine when my son was growing up. We put in a pool prior to his first birthday and even though we had it locked down pretty good, it still always had me stressed out.
