St. Patrick's Day is a little over a month away and already we've seen a number of events canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. Unfortunately, we'll have to add Bay City's annual St. Patrick's Day parade to the list as well.

For the second year in a row, the Center Avenue parade has been canceled over COVID-19. According to ABC12, Parade Association President Tom Newsham is hoping the tradition will return in 2022.

We are very mindful of keeping everyone safe. People come from all over, not just Bay City, to watch the parade. Some families have reunions on parade day and family members travel across the United States and even from Canada to come ‘home’ to Bay City.

This event pulls in thousands of people from all over the state so this is a big hit to the community.

The first Bay City parade dates back to 1955 and had over 10,000 that attended, so there's a lot of history there.

This year's parade was scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 21st.

Last month we told you about the cancellation of the annual St. Patrick's Parade in Detroit which was scheduled for Sunday, March 14. That parade is even bigger and attracts 80,000 to 100,000 people to Detroit every year.

I had a St. Patrick's Day party at my place last year just days before the state was shutdown. Never in a million years did I think we'd still be dealing with this crap a full year later.
