After 34 Years, BD’s Mongolian Grill Closes Its Last Michigan Location
After more than three decades in Michigan, BD’s Mongolian Grill is officially gone from its home state.
According to MLive, the last remaining location, tucked along Ford Road in Canton Township, quietly closed last week. And just like that, a chain that once had nearly a dozen spots scattered across Michigan is completely gone.
Why Was BD’s Mongolian Grill Loved By So Many in Michigan?
If you lived here in the late 90s or early 2000s, you already know the answer.
BD’s Mongolian Grill had its own vibe back then. The whole make-your-own stir fry thing was still pretty new, and honestly, it was fun. You’d stack your bowl as high as humanly possible, hand it over, and then stand there watching it sizzle on the flat top while the cooks worked their magic.
It wasn’t just dinner. It was part meal, part experience. And for a lot of Michigan families, friend groups, and coworkers, it became a go-to spot for years. A cool way to turn dinner into entertainment.

How Many Locations in Michigan Did BD’s Mongolian Grill Have?
At its peak, BD’s Mongolian Grill had about 10 locations scattered across Michigan, including spots in metro Detroit and Flint. When the Flint location closed a few years back, it already felt like a warning sign that things weren’t great.
Still, it didn’t really feel final until now.
When Did the Original BD’s Mongolian Grill Open in Michigan?
The original BD’s Mongolian Grill opened in downtown Royal Oak back in 1992 and helped introduce the build-your-own Mongolian barbecue concept to a lot of us.
That location closed in 2019, and from there, the rest slowly followed.
Is BD’s Mongolian Grill Still Open in Other States?
While BD’s is officially gone from Michigan, the brand hasn’t disappeared completely. There are still a small handful of locations operating in other states.
