Genesee County residents are still trying to wrap their heads around the area's recent bar and restaurant closures.

While we've seen many new businesses pop up, we've also seen a troubling trend with some familiar spots shutting their doors. In less than a month, four local bars and restaurants have closed, and it’s got people wondering what's going on. Unfortunately, it's not a question we can answer as each situation seems to have its own set of circumstances.

In less than a month, we've seen four area businesses close their doors for good. Let's recap and take a look at these businesses, which started shutting down in early October.

  • BD's Mongolian Grill – On Friday, October 11th, BD's Mongolian Grill on Miller Road in Flint abruptly closed its doors after nearly two decades. The closure came as a surprise to both customers and employees, as the popular restaurant had been a staple in Flint since its opening in 2006. There are only two locations left in Michigan: Sterling Heights and Canton
  • Joe's Garage -  After 17 years of business, Joe’s Garage Sports Pub in Clio closed its doors for good on Friday, October 18. The closure followed owner Joe Schultz’s illness, which left him unable to continue running the bar.
  • Mug Shotz - Mug Shotz on Saginaw Road in Clio closed its doors for good on Saturday, Nov. 2. We were informed that Mug Shotz is for sale, as the owners were ready to move on to a new adventure in life.
  • Burger Bar & Tap - Burger Bar and Tap on Fenton Road in Flint abruptly closed its doors for good earlier this week. It's unclear why the nearly five-year-old bar shut down.

While each location had its own circumstances for closing, all of them will be missed.
