Any Detroit Pistons fan will appreciate this news.

In an announcement yesterday, (May 16th, 2021,) fans were given the news that both Ben Wallace and Chris Webber were elected as Hall of Fame inductees in the class of 2021 for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Both Michigan icons when it comes to basketball.

Ben Wallace, is a four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year and made two NBA Finals appearances (winning the Finals with Pistons in 2004,) played nine seasons with the Pistons, and had his jersey number retired in 2016. Wallace will also be the first undrafted NBA player in the modern era to ever be elected to the hall of fame.

Detroit native Chris Webber is a five-time NBA All-star, five-time All-NBA Team member, former NBA Rookie of the Year, and former number one overall NBA Draftee. During his time at the University of Michigan, Webber led the Fab Five that included himself, Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King, and Ray Jackson. Webber also fulfilled a career goal of playing for the Detroit Pistons when he signed with them on January 16th, 2007.

As a basketball fan growing up, it is awesome to see both of these guys getting this honor. It is poetic for me as I have owned a number of jerseys in my life, I have since downsized to owning three. The three remaining jerseys that I own are a Ben Wallace Pistons Jersey, a Chris Webber Michigan jersey, and a Red Wings jersey.

Congrats to the class of 2021 that will be enshrined in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on September 11th, 2021.
