Deftones vocalist Chino Moreno has joined forces with Far guitarist Shaun Lopez to form the new side project known as 'Crosses' (or †††). If you're interested in how this will sound, you are in luck; you can download the entire 5 song EP right here.

Antiquiet reports that the plan for 'Crosses' is to release a total of 16 songs total via a series of online EPs. The current EP has Moreno going in more of an electronic direction than anything he has recorded with Deftones, but there are tracks that are rock/alt based enough that fans of Deftones will enjoy it.

Moreno told Noisecreep about the project months ago, saying:

"The guitarist from Far, Shaun [Lopez], he's been a good friend of mine since we were kids. He's my neighbor and we've done stuff together before. But just recently, during these little breaks that we've had, we've been recording this real minimal project where it's just me and him and another buddy of mine, Scott Chuck, and we're just writing these little pieces of music, whether it starts with piano or some down tempo beats. It's really minimal and soothing and it's sort of like the stuff I like listening to when I'm not screaming my head off...We'll usually work four or five hours a day. I'll go over to Shaun's and sing a bunch of stuff and we'll edit some stuff together. I'll just write lyrics really quickly and it'll be done."

Despite the hastily written lyrics, Moreno's voice has never sounded better than on this EP. He went on to say that they didn't have any plans to play live and just wanted to put this project out there for whoever is interested. Another side project of Moreno's called Team Sleep is planning to release some new material in a similar fashion later this year.

You can download the Crosses EP below for free, don't be freaked out by the song titles when downloading them. They are all spelled with weird hieroglyphics, but I assure you; it's fine.
