Democratic Candidate For Governor Proposes to Raise MI Tobacco Purchase Age to 21
Well, this is sure to get some people fired up, especially those that are smokers between the ages of 18-20.
According to WDIV, Democrat Gretchen Whitmer is proposing to raise Michigan’s tobacco purchase age from 18 to 21. The proposal was in her health care plan that was released on Wednesday. She feels it's time for the state to join five other states that have increased the purchase age to 21 because there's apparently a high tobacco usage rate in Michigan.
At the end of the day, when you're 18, you're an adult. Besides that, do kids even smoke these days? Don't they just sit around vaping with their friends anyway?
One person commented on WDIV's Facebook page and I have to agree, "Unless she's advocating raising the age of legal adulthood to 21 they should be allowed to make their own decisions."
I still believe that if you're old enough to fight and give your life for this country, you're old enough to smoke and drink. That's just my opinion and it's always something I've believed.
This woman also wants a statewide smoking ban at public beaches and parks. Come on, you're outside for god sakes. I'm not even a smoker and I think it's stupid.
