Detroit Bans All Smokeless Tobacco Products at Sporting Events
Oh boy, this one’s going to tick off a lot of people, at least the ones who still use tobacco or Zyn.
Detroit City Council just voted to ban every kind of tobacco and nicotine product at the city’s sports venues, and yeah, that includes smokeless stuff too.
Detroit Tobacco and Nicotine Ban at Sports Venues
The new rule applies to everyone, and we mean everyone. We’re talking players, coaches, staff, and fans. So whether you’re at Comerica Park, Ford Field, or Little Caesars Arena, you can’t chew, dip, or pop in a pouch anymore.
According to Fox 2 Detroit, the ordinance passed in a 7 to 2 vote and takes effect immediately. If you’re caught using tobacco or nicotine and refuse to stop, you’ll be told to leave and get hit with a $100 fine. Keep doing it, and that fine jumps to $500. Yeah, they’re not playing around with this new rule.
Smoking was already banned at these places, but this closes the loophole for the “smokeless” crowd.
Why is Detroit Banning all Tobacco Products at Sporting Events?
The city says it’s about creating a healthier environment for everyone, but come on, we know so many people are going to be fuming over this one. And honestly, if they were that concerned about a healthy environment, maybe they’d stop selling $20 beers and foot-long hot dogs loaded with sodium.
So if you’re heading to a game, just know the days of chewing or popping a pouch are over.
