I'm glad Calvin Johnson is going to be a Lion for a long time, but I'm not going to lie I'm worried about this year.  Johnson will be on the cover of Madden 2013 and anybody who knows about the Madden Curse will tell you that's a bad thing.

For the second year in a row, the Madden cover was decided by fans, in a vote put on by EA Sports and ESPN's Sportsnation.  It was a close contest with Johnson pulling in 52 percent of the vote, but when all 19 million were counted, Johnson pulled the upset on rookie sensation QB Cam Newton.

Johnson was excited to receive the honor, but many Lions fans are freaking out.  Johnson's productivity on the field is essential for the Lions success.  Considering the history of the Madden Curse, Lions fans maybe justified in their concern, especially considering they've felt it's wrath.  Legendary Lions running back Barry Sanders retired unexpectedly in 2000 after gracing the cover.  Other players over the years have gotten injured, seen a severe decline in performance, or choked in huge moments during their cover year.  Recent victims of the curse include Brett Favre, Drew Brees, Ray Lewis and last year's cover boy, Peyton Hillis.

Megatron is a freak, and I really do have faith in him.  But I, along with a lot of other Lions fans will be worried every time Johnson takes a hit.
