It’s been a crazy couple of days on the Zilwaukee Bridge. Just yesterday, all lanes finally reopened after months of construction. Then, later in the day, things took a shocking turn when some guy from Detroit jumped off the bridge. Miraculously, that man somehow survived.

The bridge had just reopened the northbound lanes after the huge maintenance project when it all went down. At some point in the afternoon, a man tried to end his life by jumping from the bridge. Police say the man, who’s struggled with depression in the past, jumped from the southbound side.

This has been a concern pretty much since the bridge opened in the late ’80s because it’s such a massive structure that stands about 125 feet above the Saginaw River at its highest point. There have been multiple incidents reported over the past couple of decades, some fatal and some where people, like in this case, somehow survived.
