Former Detroit police officer Charlie Moore recently hit the streets to show viewers what the city's most violent neighborhoods of the 1980s and 1990s look like in 2024.

During the 80s and 90s, Detroit faced serious challenges related to crime and violence. Some neighborhoods, especially those on the east side, were particularly affected. Many factors were to blame including economic decline, population loss, and the crack cocaine epidemic.

Those decades experienced elevated levels of violent crimes.

The footage that you're about to see is courtesy of Youtuber, Charlie Moore (CharlieBo313). Moore is a former Detroit Police officer who travels all around the country filming some of the most dangerous cities and neighborhoods. In his videos, he maintains a silent approach, refraining from talking or playing music, as he navigates through the areas, solely focused on capturing the scenes.

While I like that Moore offers no commentary in his videos, it makes it difficult to understand exactly where in Detroit he's filming. However, if you notice the street signs, you'll quickly realize that he's in the area marked on the map below.

While watching Moore's footage, you can't help but wonder what those neighborhoods looked like before violence and crime engulfed the city. I bet those streets were thriving with people, vibrant community activities, and a sense of unity.

Now it looks like nothing more than something that you'd see in an apocalyptic movie.
