How Early in the Morning is Too Early to Cut Your Grass in Michigan?
There's always that one person in the neighborhood who likes to get an early jump on cutting their grass. They get up before everyone else and fire up that lawn mower. If you're not an early bird, this can be really annoying.
I get it—there are some weekend mornings when I would love nothing more than to have my grass cut by 9 a.m. However, I respect my neighbors and would never mow my grass that early in the morning. Personally, I never cut my grass before 9:30 or 10 a.m.
What if I wanted to get up at 7 a.m. and start cutting my grass? Could I get into trouble?
Is There a Law Against Early Morning Lawn Mowing in Michigan?
Michigan has no specific statewide law dictating when you can legally mow your grass. However, many local ordinances include noise restrictions that limit noisy activities, such as lawn mowing, during certain hours.
Most local ordinances suggest waiting until around 8 or 9 a.m. to start mowing. This is a more reasonable time when most people are awake and won't be bothered by a neighbor mowing too early.
The same case can be made for how late you mow your grass. Again, most ordinances suggest not mowing after the sun goes down, so no later than 9 or 10 p.m.
The best thing you can do is look up your city or township's noise ordinances to find out exactly when you can and can't legally mow your grass.
