Looks like our favorite weather system is about to put the smackdown on our upcoming winter and send the temps skyrocketing next week. God damn I love El Niño.

You may only remember El Niño, which is Spanish for "The Niño," because of Chris Farley, but that recurring weather phenomenon is about to break the cycle of unbearable Michigan winters and, as a bonus, give us some really summer-y weather in September.

Our last two winters have been brutal, according to MLive Chief Meteorologist Mark Torregrosa -- there will not be a 3-peat. His analysis of the weather patterns point to a warmer, drier winter due to El Niño, which often has no effect on our summer weather but can drastically change our winter. Comparisons have been made between the strength of this El Niño and the one in 1982, which caused 64 degree highs on Christmas Day. Fingers crossed, everybody.

We don't have to wait until winter to the feel the raw power of The Niño though, the current forecast for next week says we'll have a four day stretch between Thursday, September 3rd and Sunday the 7th where the highs could reach the low 90s! Just when I was thought that cleaning the pool again would be a waste of time, Michigan weather strikes again!
