A long time Flint area gay bar, will soon be turned into a jazz club. After being on the market for eight years, the Pachyderm Pub has a new owner. According to MLive, the bar was purchased by Sheldon T. Banks, owner of two funeral homes in Genesee County.

The Pachyderm Pub, located on Hemphill Road in Burton, was opened in 1998. I have been in there a handful of times over the years with my friend Brandon. I always had a good time there. I kind of remember sitting in an outdoor courtyard area, I can't be sure because tequila.

Mr. Banks will be changing the bars name to 'The Soothing Tunes Room'. From all accounts it will be an upscale club - serving food, drinks, and of course hosting live jazz musicians. I think that is cool. The only jazz club I have ever been to is Cliff Bell's in Detroit. It's a great place, but not somewhere I go often because of the drive. According to Sheldon T. Banks, 'The Soothing Tunes Room' will be a place to 'to meet and greet and wind down.'

Before the Pachyderm Pub changes hands, the bar will be hosting one last party this Sunday, June 28th, from noon until 2:00 AM. The event will feature a cookout and drink specials throughout the day (see below). This is a great way for the community to say thank you, and show respect to soon to be former owner, Greg Lamay. Congratulations to you sir on 22 years of business in Genesee County.

On a side note, I was right about the outdoor courtyard/patio area. I just saw a picture on their Facebook.
