Flint will be hiring five new police officers after the Flint City Council supported a motion by Mayor Dayne Walling to shift more than $300,000 in the budget.

The proposal comes after Flint has suffered 10 murders in the last 11 days, and already surpassed the number of homicides set last year.

This is good news for Flint, but the hirings wont take place immediately.  Flint still needs approval from the state-appointed Transition Advisory Board.

Flint needs to curb this violence, especially at a time when all signs are pointing to a renaissance in Flint.  Do you think the new officers will help make a difference in the city?
