A name synonymous with appliances and tools is getting harder and harder to find in Michigan. Four Sears Hometown stores are closing their doors for good.

Sears Hometown stores announced their closures on social media pages, indicating large discounts and liquidation prices.

Which Michigan Locations Are Closing?

According to the Detroit News, Sears Hometown stores in Escanaba, Houghton, Ionia, and Salt Ste. Marie announced store closings on their respective Facebook pages.

More Stores Closing Nationwide

More than 90 Sears Hometown stores in the United States are slated to close and are posting about liquidation sales on their social media pages. Several others announced that they were closing in January.

Sears Hometown stores in Saginaw and Mt. Pleasant, Michigan were shuttered earlier this year.

Which Michigan Locations Will Remain Open?

Sears Hometown stores are locally owned, operating independently from the corporation that has shuttered all but a few Sears and Kmart stores across the country.

The Sears Hometown Store in Fenton, located at 14283 Fenton Road remains open, selling a large variety of home appliances, tools, and lawn and garden equipment.

The Sears Hometown Store which is located at 1152 Cleaver Road in Caro remains open as well.

Online Store Locator Not Kept Up to Date

Sears, Kmart, and Sears Hometown Stores have been closing at a rapid pace over the last decade and online store locators have not accurately reflected which stores have been shuttered.

The Sears store at Genesee Valley Center in Flint Township closed in September of 2018, while the last Kmart in Michigan closed its doors in November of last year.

Plans for the old Kmart plaza in Grand Blanc are slowly beginning to take shape, with a Jersey Mike's, Starbucks, and Panda Express slated to open in the coming months.
