Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson Announces Jailhouse Music Studio
A Flint, Michigan jail is getting a music studio for inmates to produce and write music.
Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson announced the news on Wday, March 13th, during an Inmate Growth Naturally and Intentionally Through Education (I.G.N.I.T.E) graduation for Genesee County Jail inmates.
According to ABC 12, the music studio will located on the fifth floor of the Genesee County Jail and is a partnership with Flint Institute of Music.
You may remember that musician Jelly Roll visited the Genesee County Jail on December 5th, 2023. NBC 25 reports that the music superstar is sponsoring the music studio and that Jelly Roll (according to Sheriff Swanson) will return to Flint at some point.
It is unclear the extent of Jelly Roll's sponsorship at this time.
The I.G.N.I.T.E graduation yesterday was the 26th ceremony at the Genesee County Jail. The program is growing nationwide and is now being endorsed by Harvard University.

The Jailhouse Music Studio inside the Genesee County Jail is projected to open this summer 2024.
