Hamtramck Police Chief Accused of Driving Drunk in Police Car to Strip Club

Oh boy, Hamtramck’s got a real mess on its hands.

There is a new 59 page report out of Hamtramck, and it is an ugly one. Investigators say Police Chief Husam Altaheri drove drunk in a city-issued police car with other officers, flipped on the lights and sirens, and blew through red lights on the way to a Detroit strip club. Read that one more time and let it sink in, because it is quite disturbing.

What Does the Report Say About Chief Altaheri?

Drunk driving in a police car and hitting up strip clubs wasn't the only thing. According to WXYZ, the report says he wiped his city phone to destroy evidence, misused police lights whenever he felt like it, and even handed a loaded gun to a civilian volunteer, allegedly telling them to point it at somebody’s head. Investigators say there is enough here to fire him. You think?

Other Hamtramck Officials Also Accused of Misconduct

The chief is not alone in this crazy mess. Officer David Adamczyk is accused of rigging a sergeant’s exam, lying about recording coworkers, abusing overtime, and teaming up with Altaheri in a sketchy stolen car recovery.

How about City Manager Max Garbarino? The report says he showed poor judgment, like pushing to rehire Adamczyk and even showing up to a council meeting with a concealed weapon after he was suspended.

Seriously, this sounds like something out of a movie.

Hamtramck City Council Fires City Manager, Pushes to Fire Police Chief

The Hamtramck City Council met on Tuesday, August 26, and things got real. They voted to fire City Manager Max Garbarino on the spot and told the acting city manager to cut ties with both Chief Altaheri and Officer David Adamczyk, too.
