There are a lot of things in this country that people are divided over, and sadly, some of those disagreements even turn violent. But when we’re stabbing people over how to cook chicken, it might be time to take a serious look at ourselves.

As ridiculous as that sounds, police say that’s exactly what happened during a barbecue in Hazel Park earlier this month.

According to FOX 2 Detroit, 60-year-old Kenneth Erwin Thomas was having a barbecue with his girlfriend on September 7 when her brother, 62-year-old Cleo Lawson of Detroit, stopped by.

During the get-together, Thomas and Lawson started arguing over how the chicken should be cooked. Yes, chicken. Somehow, a disagreement over dinner got completely out of control.

Things turned physical, and Lawson allegedly stabbed Thomas. Thomas later died from his injuries.

It’s hard to understand how something so small and ridiculous could get so out of control. One minute, people are hanging out at a backyard barbecue, and the next, a man is dead over the way someone wanted to cook dinner.

Detroit Man Charged With Second Degree Murder

Lawson was arraigned on September 10 and charged with second-degree murder. He was denied bond and remains behind bars until his next court appearance.

You have to believe there’s more to this story than an argument over chicken. At least, you’d hope there is. Either way, I don’t care how strongly you feel about the way chicken should be cooked. It should never end with someone losing their life.
