Crews from several area fire departments are battling a structure in downtown Lapeer.

A fire that apparently started early Saturday morning in an empty building on Nepessing St. threatens to destroy several area businesses. The fire is reported to have originated in a building adjacent to the Lapeer County Vision Center.

The County Press reports that crews have managed to bring the blaze under control as of late Saturday morning.

In the video below posted on YouTube by jacuzzibusguy, you'll hear radio calls involving several area fire departments. Reports indicate that fire crews from Lapeer, Metamora, Imlay City, Elba, Deerfield, Oxford, and Davison have all pitched in to help fight the blaze.

The Lapeer County Press reports that one firefighter has been treated on the scene for smoke inhalation. No other injuries are reported at this time.

According to Flint's ABC-12, the Department of Natural Resources says the Mid-Michigan area is extremely vulnerable to fire damage this weekend. Because of the hot weather and extremely dry conditions, fire risk is classified as "very high to extreme" for Saturday (6/5) and Sunday.
