
Shelter-in-Place Lifted After Flint Township Shooter Contained
A tense situation played out this morning in Flint Township prompting area schools to go into lockdown mode. Just after 10:00am this morning, Swartz Creek Community Schools posted on social media that students and staff at both Morrish Elementary School and Dye Elementary School were forced to shelter-in-place due to an active shooter in the area.

The Facebook post said that students and staff are safe inside the buildings and that a shelter-in-place means that students and staff remain inside the school building. They also stated that teaching and normal activities were continuing inside as safely as possible.
Michigan State Police Respond, Area Roads Closed
Michigan State Police were responding to the active shooter situation located in the area of Linden and Dye Roads in Flint Township. Area roads and businesses were closed as the police tracked down the shooter. According to an unconfirmed source there was just one shot fired inside a home in the area.
Situation Contained, Lockdown Lifted
Just minutes later, the school updated it post saying:
The situation near Miller and Dye roads has been fully contained by the Michigan State Police. The shelter-in-place at Morrish Elementary and Elms Elementary has been lifted. All students and staff are safe, and normal school operations have resumed.
While the schools have lifted their lockdown, as of now the police stand off continues. The suspect is contained in a home in Flint Township.
UPDATE: The suspect was taken into police custody around 2:30 this afternoon.
Context: National Tensions and Tragedies
This comes not only on the 24th anniversary of 9/11, but just a day after the school shooting at Evergreen High School in Colorado, and the assassination of Charlie Kirk during a rally at Utah Valley University. The Colorado gunman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, while the gunman in Utah is still on the run.

Today is a tough day for everyone trying to process everything going on in the world. The last thing that these poor elementary school students needed was to be put on lockdown. Luckily, no students were in any apparent danger while the active shooter situation played out.
