Detroit Youth Choir Earns ‘AGT’ Golden Buzzer Thanks to Flint’s Terry Crews
The second time was definitely a charm for a group of young singers from Detroit, and they have Flint's own Terry Crews to thank for it.
The Detroit Youth Choir took the stage on Monday night for their AGT: All-Stars audition. The group of talented singers, ranging in age from 8 to 18, were back for a second chance after finishing second in season 14 of the popular talent competition. The new season brings back the "best of the best" to compete once again for the top prize of $1 million.
Four years later the choir, under the direction of Anthony White, performed their take on Imagine Dragons' "Thunder", and not only brought the audience to their feet but one judge to tears.
“Can I be honest with you? I’m actually speechless, I mean seriously speechless," SImon Cowell said as he was clearing choked up. "This was just magic. Absolute creative magic. It’s one of the best things...I’m actually quite emotional."
During the choir's first performance 4 years ago, host Terry Crews was so moved he gave the group the Golden Buzzer sending them to the finals, and history was about to repeat itself. Crews emotionally took the stage and pushed the Golden Buzzer once again for the group from Detroit.
“Mr. White, you have changed the lives of thousands of young men and women all over," Crews said. "For what you have done for the city of Detroit. For what you have done in this world, one Golden Buzzer! Is that enough?”
The choir will now move on to the finals and join 10 other acts for the AGT- All Stars 2-hour finale set to air on NBC.
The Detroit Youth Choir, established over 20 years ago, "aspires to transform the youth of Metro-Detroit into creative, curious and compassionate young adults by using the performing arts as a vehicle for success" with a goal to provide "compassion and empathy are guiding forces from our staff which provides a safe space, both physically and emotionally for our future leaders".
Congratulation DYC, and we will all be cheering you on!
