Recreational Marijuana could be a thing of the past for Lapeer if it's voted in this November election. A proposal on the ballot would completely get rid of recreational marijuana meaning that dispensaries and grow operations in the area would get eliminated.

This sounds like a recipe for destruction. Those who took the time to invest millions into their business will be left with nothing. This means if this does come to pass, your gonna see some of the biggest lawsuits ever to be applied against the state.

A ballot proposal spearheaded by former Lapeer City Commissioner Dan Osentoski, who died just last month, is on the general election ballot, and officials are worried about the consequences if it’s approved, including the potential for lawsuits from business owners who have invested millions to purchase and develop their stores since the City Commission voted to allow up to six recreational retailers to operate here. This November election could literally ruin a bunch of new businesses in Lapeer. Not to mention the verbiage on the ballot would strip people of the licenses that they paid thousands of dollars for and also shut down any grow operations.

The legal system when it comes to cannabis is still a bit silly. The corporations wanna come in and push out any upcoming businesses and raise taxes on products. This seems like one of the first moves in a long chain of events to completely monopolize the cannabis market in Michigan. The sad part is that the consumer is gonna be the one that really suffers. Without a broad marketplace, corporations will dictate the price and potentially drive people back to the streets with crazy prices.

I don't understand why anyone would vote YES in November's upcoming election. Just be mindful of what you're voting for and do your research.
