Warning: Fake Mackinac Island Ticket Sites Are Scamming Tourists
If you’re planning a trip to Mackinac Island before the snow flies, here’s something you’ll want to know before booking your tickets.
Scammers are running fake websites trying to pull a fast one on tourists heading to one of Michigan’s hottest destinations.
According to ABC 12, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel just put a company on blast for running shady websites that trick people into thinking they’re buying legit tickets for Mackinac Island attractions and ferry rides.
According to her office, a business called MTVRS LLC is behind two different sites:
One pretends to sell tickets for Fort Mackinac.
The other makes it look like you’re buying directly from Shepler’s Ferry.
Spoiler: you’re not.
The company has until October 6 to either fix or shut down the sites. If they don’t, they could be looking at fines or a lawsuit.
Why Mackinac Island Travelers Need to Watch Out
Mackinac Island is one of Michigan’s biggest summer hotspots, and tons of people buy ferry and attraction tickets online. That makes it an easy target for scammers looking to take your money and ruin your trip before it even starts.
How to Avoid Getting Burned
Only buy tickets straight from Shepler’s Ferry or Mackinac State Historic Parks.
Always check the URL before you enter your credit card info.
Think you already got scammed? File a complaint with the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division.

Because nothing ruins a Mackinac Island trip faster than finding out your ferry ticket is fake. A trip to the island is pricey enough already, and you don’t need to tack on wasted money from a scam.
