If you saw this in your backyard, you’d probably keep your distance.

According to Up North Live, a creek in Springfield, Michigan (Calhoun County), suddenly turned a bright, almost neon green earlier this week, and nobody knows exactly why yet.

The color was so intense that it actually made the surrounding grass look brighter. You can see just how bright it was in the video below.

One resident said her son noticed it first while playing outside. At first, she thought it was nothing, but after seeing it herself, she posted photos online, and people immediately started wondering what had been dumped there.

Why Is the Water in This Michigan Creek Bright Green?

Well…that’s what they’re trying to figure out right now.

City officials and EGLE are already on it and have taken water samples to see exactly what’s in there. The sheriff’s office even used drones to try to track where it started.

Now, this isn’t just some random creek in the middle of nowhere. It runs right by a dog park, neighborhoods, and eventually feeds into the Kalamazoo River. That why it's such a big deal

And if this whole thing feels a little familiar, you’re not wrong.

We told you about something similar in Clinton Township back in 2023. That one ended up being a harmless dye used to check for illegal sump pump hookups.

So yeah…there’s a chance this could turn out to be nothing serious.

Is It Safe to Be Near Helmer Creek in Springfield, Michigan?

Even though the water has started to clear up, officials are telling people to stay out of it. That's probably a good call.
