Michigan Drivers to Receive $400 Auto Insurance Refund in 2022
If you had an auto insurance policy this year, you should be getting a check.
Let's take a minute and go back in time to when you first got your driver's license. The excitement was high and you were excited to be able to go where you wanted when you wanted. The ability to just grab your friends and go was awesome.
Fast forward to one month later and you are in the middle of experiencing your first real-life lessons on your journey to becoming an adult. You quickly realize that this exciting new car and abundant opportunities are costing you a small fortune. This is when we really start to feel the burn of adulthood with gas prices, car payments, and the ever-popular car insurance payment. Fortunately, an extremely small relief in the form of a refund check is heading your way.
When can policyholders expect to see these refund checks?
On Tuesday, December 7th, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services announced that Michigan auto insurance policyholders will be receiving a $400 per vehicle refund in 2022. The Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association will begin processing the surplus funds immediately and drivers in Michigan could see those checks as early as April of 2022.
Who qualifies for the refund?
Every Michigan resident with an auto insurance policy in force as of 11:59 pm on October 31st, 2021 will receive a refund check. No action will need to be taken by the policyholders to receive the refunds.
Sure it's not much compared to what we've all paid over the years, but hey, $400 is $400.
