Person Dies After Jumping from Michigan’s Mackinac Bridge
A few weeks ago, we told you about someone jumping off the Zilwaukee Bridge and surviving. Now here we are again, but on a different Michigan bridge. This one happened at the Mackinac Bridge, and this time the person didn’t survive.
According to WLUC, this happened just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4. The person jumped from the bridge and sadly didn’t survive. It’s just heartbreaking. And keep in mind, people aren’t even allowed to walk on the Mackinac Bridge outside of special events, so something like this is extremely rare.
Most of us have driven across the Mighty Mac at some point, taken photos, treated crossing it like a whole event, or white knuckled our way over it on a windy day. In an RV, that can be extremely scary, at least it was for me. Yup, white knuckles the whole way. Seeing it tied to something this sad just feels awful.
The Mackinac Bridge opened in 1957, and while there have been incidents over the years, they are extremely rare considering how many millions of people cross it every year.
According to one source, from its opening until 2013, there were roughly 19 confirmed deaths involving the bridge. With this latest incident, the total is now at least 20.
