A celebration of winter returns to Houghton in February with the 100th annual Michigan Tech Winter Carnival.

Winter Carnival started way back in 1922 and has grown into one of the biggest and longest running annual winter celebrations in the state of Michigan. This year the event is expected to be bigger than ever as they celebrate 100 years of outdoor winter fun.

The event is know for its for huge, intricate snow statues that will be on display around campus and around the community. Some of the snow statues stand nearly 30 feet high and take more than 1,000 work hours to build. They even pump the music through giant snow speakers...for real.

They also offer some unique and fun events that most winter festivals in Michigan don't have.
