Even though what you find at a garage sale may be considered a bargain, there are just some things you should never buy from a garage sale. These items fall in line with the items you should also never buy from a dollar store.

Items You Should Never Buy From a Michigan Garage Sale

Mattress

The last thing you want to do is buy someone's old beat-up mattress. The thought of sleeping in a stranger's bed is just gross, not to mention the risk of bringing bed bugs into your home. Even if the mattress is in great condition and looks clean, don't do it.

Cribs

You want to avoid buying cribs from a garage sale because of their unknown history. It's all about keeping your little one safe. You have no idea if there's been a recall, it may not meet safety standards, and it may be missing parts.

Helmets

Like cribs, the history of a used helmet is often unknown. Helmets sold at garage sales may not meet safety standards or they may have sustained damage that compromises their effectiveness.

Car Seats

You shouldn't buy car seats, for the same reason we told you not to buy cribs and helmets from a garage sale.

Running Shoes/Underwear/Swimsuits

Never buy running shoes, underwear, or swimsuits, from a garage sale. These are items that touch the parts of other people's bodies that you don't want touching yours.

Cosmetics

Avoid buying cosmetics from yard sales due to hygiene concerns, expired products, and potential product degradation.

Other items you should avoid buying at a garage sale include laptops, non-stick pots and pans, baby bottles, and upholstered furniture.
