New Comedy Club in Detroit Set to Open Later This Month
There's a new comedy club coming to Downtown Detroit and will officially open its doors on Friday, June 24.
If there's one thing Detroit is in desperate need of, it's comedy clubs. There are comedy clubs in Ferndale, Royal Oak, Ann Arbor, and Novi but for whatever reason, nothing in Detroit...until now.
Detroit House of Comedy is located on Woodward Avenue in what used to be the City Theatre inside Hockeytown Café.
According to their website, the Detroit House of Comedy will be run by co-owners John Tobin and Rick Bronson and will host stand-up, improv and podcasts from established local, regional and national headliners, as well as up-and-comers with a focus on supporting comedians from Detroit and throughout Michigan.
The 300-seat club will will host its grand opening Friday, June 24th with comedian Hans Kim. However, there is a Detroit Showcase on June 18 that will feature the funniest comics in the city.
The current list of shows at Detroit House of Comedy are scheduled through September 3.

- Hans Kim June 24 + 24
- Jeff Horste June 30 - July 2

I'm so hoping that I can get tickets to see Doug Stanhope on August 26. Stanhope is one of my all-time favorite comedians.
Venue Description
Modeled after Laugh Boston, Detroit House of Comedy features a cabaret set up, but with an emphasis on improving sight lines to the stage from every seat in the room. However, departing from the typical level-flooring throughout the room, seats are dispersed across 6 different levels, cascading downward towards the stage in an amphitheater-like design that should not disappoint.
