Low-Life Thief Uses Obituaries to Rob MI Homes During Funerals

There are lowlifes in the world, and then there's Jerry Ryan Ashley of Detroit. A man who would sink so low as to use the obituaries to prey on his victims.

Police recently arrested Ashley after he targeted homes in Grosse Pointe Woods, Grosse Pointe, Ann Arbor, and Bloomfield Township.

Get this, Ashley would read the obituaries to determine who had recently passed away. He would then break into the homes of the deceased while their funerals and wakes were happening. Yes, he would literally wait for people to die and then break into their homes and steal their personal belongings, all while the funeral was happening.

Then of course, loved ones would return from the funeral and go to the home of the deceased only to find out someone broke in. Not only are these people grieving but not they have to endure even more pain knowing the belongings of their loved ones had been stolen. Wow, that is really messed up.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, Ashley was caught after investigators started connecting the dots following several break-ins. Home security video from one of the victims then caught him in the act.

This isn't this guy's first encounter with the law. He was arrested in the past for home invasion, trespassing, malicious destruction of personal property, and breaking and entering.

He is currently being held in jail on a high cash bond. He's exactly where he needs to be. Unbelievable.

Abandoned 1949 Mammoth Department Store in Detroit

Built in 1949, the Mammoth building started as the Federal Department Store, a vital part of the community. Over the years, different owners like Kingsway Department Stores and Mammoth Department Store shaped its history.

The doors officially closed in 2001 and it's been empty ever since.
