Police in Owosso are now investigating a case where the family of an elderly woman waited three weeks to report her death.

On February 3rd, the Owosso Police Department received a call about the passing of a woman in her 70's. Upon arriving at the home, the death seemed a bit suspicious to the officers as the body was already decaying. Early reports say that the woman had been dead for at least three weeks.

The elderly woman had been living with her daughter and son-in-law. The pair were also the woman's caregivers. When officers arrived, there was an odor in the house and the couple used air fresheners and stuffed a towel under the door to try and contain it.

Owosso police are still investigating the incident and checking into the elderly woman's bank records to search or anything suspicious. An autopsy is currently underway and no charges have been filed yet.
