A small plane went down Thursday evening in Bath Township, killing all three people on board.

According to WILX, the crash happened around 5 p.m. near Clark and Peacock roads, just east of downtown Bath. The area sits just a few miles east of Lansing. When first responders got there, the small plane was already totally destroyed, and sadly, everyone on board was dead.

Right now, nobody knows what caused the crash or even where the plane was headed. The Federal Aviation Administration is on the scene, working with Bath Township Police and other local departments to try and figure everything out.

According to the Lansing Journal, flight data from FlightAware shows the small Beechcraft Hawker 800 took off from Battle Creek and flew northeast before its signal suddenly disappeared north of I-69.

Officials still aren’t sure where the plane was headed, but flight data shows it took off from Battle Creek and was scheduled to return there before the crash. The Aviation Safety Network says it dropped fast from about 15,000 feet and hit the ground in under 30 seconds.

Police shut down Clark Road at Peacock while crews picked through the wreckage Thursday night. A press conference that was supposed to happen later got called off by the FAA, who said it’s just too early in the investigation to release any details.
