Burton Says Goodbye to Nehring’s Market Owner Ralph Nehring
If you’ve ever shopped at Nehring’s Market in Burton, you probably knew Ralph Nehring. Or at the very least, you knew his smile. He probably made you laugh a time or two, too.
Ralph passed away on February 17, 2026. His daughter Katie shared the news on Facebook, saying her dad worked at the market well into his mid 80s and that one of his greatest joys was talking with customers while serving the community.

Nehring’s Market has always felt different, and that’s because it was built that way. I always loved running into Ralph, whether he was working inside the store or pulling weeds in the flower beds out front. He had a way of making you feel like you were old friends. And in my case, he always called me “young man,” which goes a long way when you’re in your 40s or 50s.
When Did Nehring’s Market in Burton Open?
The market’s roots go all the way back to November 1, 1960, when Ralph’s parents, Beulah and Carl Nehring, first opened the store on South Belsay Road.
Katie officially joined her dad as a co-owner in 2006, and the heart of the place never changed. Nehring’s Market is still open today, still family-run, and still built on knowing customers by name, keeping the store spotless, and doing things the right way.
Ralph will be deeply missed by the countless customers he connected with over the years, including this “young man.”
