A Flint City councilman wants to revive an ordinance that would prevent the sale of alcohol from certain stores and gas stations after a specific time.

The idea is that this will help curb crime and prevent people from gathering around stores late. I think this is a complete waste of time and I have little faith that this ordinance with stop anything.

Flint City Councilman Allan Griggs says he wants to resurrect the proposed ordinance to add restrictions to certain stores.

Last fall, after special orders from Griggs and Second Ward’s Maurice Davis -- council considered an ordinance to change the hours of operation and the sale of alcohol at gas stations, convenience stores and liquor stores to combat crime.

The ordinance would only allow sales of alcohol at certain stores from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Source:NBC25.com

The violence in Flint has nothing to do with liquor and has more to do with the culture of Flint. The norm in the streets of Flint is to bring violence first without negotiating. That's something alcohol might help fuel, but it is in no way the cause of our problems. Our problem is systemic. It's the mindset that this generation has grown up with that's so dangerous.   And the sad part is that I think the only way to combat this is to start working on the next generation. When a person reaches a certain age their mind is already developed for their environment, and if your environment is nothing but gangsters and rappers what do you think comes along with that lifestyle?

We need to start showing our youth other ways to make money and have a super successful life. Because running to the streets isn't the answer and that's what's causing all the violence.  The mindset, not alcohol.
