10 Times Rock Stars Invaded Game Shows
Rock star isn’t the brainiest of professions, but some musicians are packing in the brain department. Others, like James Brown on Wheel of Fortune, were almost too messed up to play the game.
Did you know Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich was a contestant on Millionaire? Playing for charity, Ulrich made it pretty far into the game, thanks in part to a prevalence of music-related questions. Lars made the metal world proud, though, winning $32,000 for the Haight Ashbury Free Clinic after getting the $125,000 question wrong.
There’s perhaps no greater game show triumph in rock history than Runaways musician Jackie Fuchs’ run on Jeopardy! The brainy bassist won four games of Jeopardy! in 2018, pocketing a total of $87,089. Not bad for someone who holds a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard.
As for James Brown, he competed on Wheel of Fortune on a two-man team with rock ’n’ roll blueprinter Little Richard. For some reason, Brown and Richard were the only team competing, going against solo opponents in Weird Al Yankovic and country artist Lee Greenwood. Brown makes a hilarious flop during the 1994 episode, making an “eh” noise that was somehow counted as an “I”.
