Severe thunderstorms caused plenty of damage and knocked out power for hundreds and thousands of residents in the state of Michigan.

After a wild afternoon of wicked weather on Wednesday (8/11), many areas were once again pounded with severe thunderstorms overnight. As of Thursday (8/12) morning, nearly 250,000 Consumers Energy customers are without power.

Many people are reporting that Consumers Energy is estimating that their power may not be restored until Saturday.

The DTE outage map shows that more than 25% of customers, about 570,000 people are without power from the Detroit area north to the thumb.

DTE has dispatched more than 100 crews in an attempt to restore power to customers and both utilities are calling in additional crews from other areas in order to expedite the restoration process.

Flint Area Damage

Storms caused excessive damage throughout the Flint area both Wednesday afternoon and through the early morning hours on Thursday.

Residents in at least one Flushing neighborhood were essentially trapped when high winds downed a tree that blocked access to McKinley Road. Take a look at this video of the damage from WNEM-TV.

West Michigan residents were hit hard by storms that rolled through that region on Wednesday. There are reports of vehicles that have been totalled by falling trees. Take a look at this report from WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids.

Downed power lines and uprooted trees were reported throughout the Detroit Metro area as well.
