Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson has another music superstar backing the IGNITE program.

Sheriff Swanson shared a video on social media of Snoop Dogg praising IGNITE students for their hard work. He expressed interest in finding a way to integrate the IGNITE program in Los Angeles.

You can see the video here.

If you are not familiar with IGNITE, it was started by Sheriff Chris Swanson at the Genesee County Jail. IGNITE stands for Inmate Growth Naturally and Intentionally Through Education.

The mission is to reverse the cycle of generational incarceration through education. Educating inmates has numerous benefits that help reduce recidivism and make the community safer.

By providing inmates with valuable job training, they are equipped with skills they can use upon release to gain meaningful employment and reduce their likelihood of reoffending.

Educational programs have also been found to reduce generational incarceration by offering inmates a way to break out of the cycle perpetuated by previous generations.

Snoop Dogg is not the first superstar to shine a light on IGNITE. Jelly Roll performed at an IGNITE graduation ceremony at the Genesee County Jail in 2023. Since then, Jelly Roll has helped to open a music studio at the jail.

I believe this will be the first of many videos featuring the pair. It is wonderful to see the IGNITE program continue to expand across the country.
