It's always a little scary when you get an email from your child's school saying they're in "secure mode" due to a possible threat. That's exactly what happened this morning when I received an email from Grand Blanc Middle School where my son attends.

Thanks to resident voters, Swartz Creek schools will get a massive security upgrade. I'm talking $48 million in improvements including new security cameras, digital locking systems and barricade devices just to name a few.

A 12-year-old Michigan boy is currently sitting in a juvenile detention center after he allegedly threatened to shoot up his South Lyon Middle School.

A couple of school crossings guards were hit twice in just two days this week while escorting students in Davison.

Last weekend in my neighborhood I saw multiple families standing in their front yards taking pictures with kids that were all dressed up and heading out to prom. You just see these kids looking so happy and you just hope they play it safe.

How cold is too cold for local schools?

It's pretty rare that we see temps in the 90s this time of year. Due to the expected heat index, Owosso schools will be letting students out early.

Whoever this person/these people are, they are total aholes. Recently, some vandals made their way to an elementary school in Saginaw and left some pretty nasty things.

I didn't realize that schools couldn't start before Labor Day unless the state granted a waiver.

A 90-year-old building in Flint, that has been used as a school for the majority of that time, is currently being demolished. St. Michael's was a catholic school for half it's life and a school of choice the rest of the time in Flint.

At this point, I don't think we can even count as to how many buildings sit vacant in our area.

More than 50 Michigan schools will be getting some upgrades thanks to a grant from the Michigan State Police.
