This Is Michigan’s Most Popular Self Care Activity
Michigan's most popular self-care activity is most likely not the first thing that comes to your mind, but it does involve your hands.
According to Silk and Sonder, the practice of self-care first came to fruition in the 1950s. However, Wikipedia reports the practice was first started by Socrates in ancient Greece. Either way, the term has definitely been thrown around in the last few years.
Love it or call it BS, self-care does not seem to be going away anytime soon. Your idea of self-care may not be everyone's idea, and believe me when I tell you the most popular self-care activity in Michigan is not my particular cup of tea either.
According to Within Health, the top ten self-care activities in the United States are as follows,
- Exercise
- Bath
- Journaling
- Yoga
- Massage
- Sleep
- Music
- Essential Oils
- Pedicure
- Podcast
Which of the above do you think Michiganders enjoy most? The answer is journaling. Are you surprised? I was. How did eating and drinking not make the list? Apparently, I have been doing self-care wrong.
All kidding aside, journaling is reportedly very good for your mental health. Why keep everything bottled up inside when you can get it out on paper or your computer? Some benefits of journaling according to the University of Rochester Medical Center are as follows,
- Helps to reduce stress
- Helps to manage anxiety
- Helps cope with depression
- Helps you to recognize triggers
Journaling may not have ever crossed your mind, but you know what they say - don't knock it until you try it. Who knows, you just may enjoy it.
